Natalie Gil-Arcos
Project: Development of a Green Cosmetic Chemistry Laboratory
Let’s Hear from Natalie: “Hello, my name is Natalie Gil-Arcos. I am an undergraduate student at Monmouth University. I am majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science and aspire to become a laboratory scientist of some sort. During my research time with Dr. Burrows, I am most eager to learn about the different teaching techniques that can help students excel and understand Chemistry!”
Emily De Almeida
Project: A longitudinal look at experiences across different inquiry labs
Let’s Hear from Emily: “My project focuses on determining how different inquiry levels in the chemistry laboratories at Monmouth University impact a student’s perspective on the laboratory course. The overarching research question for this study includes, “Do chemistry students at Monmouth University have different perspectives/experiences of the laboratory as the inquiry level increases from a confirmation inquiry lab to an authentic inquiry lab?” Chemical Education Research (CER) works toward understanding how students learn chemistry, which can help educators reform their curriculum to enhance the learning outcomes of their students. Hopefully, with my research, other research within the same realm, and research that may be done on this topic in the future, we will be able to determine the degree of autonomy a student should have in a learning environment to allow them to flourish in their chemistry classes.”
CLaire Swansson
Project: Exploring gamification of a class
Let’s Hear from Claire: “Hello, my name is Claire Swansson! I am a Freshman at Monmouth University, and I am currently double majoring in Chemistry and Secondary Education. I am very excited to begin research with Dr. Burrows, as I am interested in someday becoming a chemistry teacher myself, so I am excited to learn about more effective chemistry teaching skills through her research projects!”
Amina Rabah
Project: Designing Applied Chemistry labs from Pure Research
Let’s hear from Amina: “Hi, my name is Amina! I am currently a sophomore in the Physician Assistant 3+3 Program here at Monmouth. I major in Biology and plan to minor in Chemistry. I am looking forward to the research process and working with Dr. Burrows and the team!”
